The grounds and gardens

The grounds and gardensLanwades Park extends to approximately 120 acres including 90 acres of paddocks. The remainder of the site is where our veterinary and scientific staff work to fight disease and injury in animals.

Within the immediate grounds of Lanwades Hall, we have an exquisite Terrace and Sunken Garden* which is almost exactly as it was when the Hall was built just over 100 years ago. We have plans to create a rose garden in the grounds of Lanwades Hall. There was one when the gardens were originally laid out when the Hall was built, but this has subsequently gone and its original location is now a car park!

The development of the grounds and gardens is a constantly evolving process. There will be individual projects undertaken every year, with the help of our team of volunteers, which will give you and your family something new to see each season. We will highlight these new projects in the Visitors Centre. There is a large site map at the Visitors Centre and smaller versions are included in our leaflets for you to take with you. You can also view our map by clicking here.

Throughout the grounds we also have some marked walks and trails where you and your dog will be able to see some of the areas that make up Lanwades Park. There is plenty of wildlife too!

Why not enjoy a picnic in the grounds or gardens with your friends or family? If you decide to have a picnic once you are here, don’t worry as you can purchase all that you need from the Stable Yard Coffee Shop and shop in the Visitors Centre.

* Please note that dogs are not allowed in the Sunken Garden.
